Do you set New Year Resolutions and find yourself off track by the end of January? I’m not going to lie, I cant even count the times I’ve done this too.
It is common for the distractions life to get in the way and we lose our focus of the outcome we wanted to achieve. So how do we we stop this?
Take a moment to really break down your 2022 goal. What do you want to achieve? In what time frame do you want to achieve it in? How do you plan on achieving this goal? Is the goal achievable with your current life style?
When we set our expectations too high we can often lose focus at the challenge of it. We then can feel disappointed and defeated that we could not achieve the think we set out to do.
So lets assess the goal…
Imagine you wanted to lose 10kg by then end of 2022- Something a lot of us often hope for. We have control of how much or how little fitness we participate in. and we also have control of the diet we maintain throughout the year. We however do not have total control of the physical number of kilograms our body decreases in over a certain time period. Factors such as each individuals metabolism and the increase in muscle mass can influence the number we see when we step one the scales each time.
So lets reframe the goal…
By “losing 10kgs” what are you wanting to achieve? A better physical appearance? A healthier lifestyle? A confidence boost? These things are all achievable by taking the physical number out and focusing on what we want in the long run.
If we “rephrase” and set our goal as “I want to feel better about my physical health” we have set an achievable goal that is not reliant on what our body will and wont do. After a 12 month period we may only have an 8kg weight loss, but we will have a sense of achievement and satisfaction because we feel overall healthier and fitter. Instead of standing on those scales and feeling disappointed because the last 2kg are still there we are acknowledging the amazing achievement of feeling happier in ourselves because we have worked hard for it.
Its not too last to really look at your New Year’s goal and prioritise what is important to you.
